Trail Bridge Replacment

MVTC received a Legacy Trails grant from American trails to replace three trail Forest Service bridges. In 2023 MVTC and our partners replaced a 45 foot long bridge on the Louis Lake Trail. In 2024, we will replace two failing trail bridges on the Cutthroat Creek trail. We will be working with our partners and volunteers to make the replacemnt happen with the goal of completing the project by August 2024. Each Saturday in July will be an opportunity to help out. Head over to out our volunteer page to help out.

The next bridge on the docket is a single stringer foot log on the Wolf Creek trail # 527. MVTC plans to replace this partially burned water crossing during August-September of 2024.

Public meetings

MVTC facilitates public meetings on the third Wednesday of every other month (January, March, May, July, September, and November). The meetings are a forum for trail users, land managers, and advocacy groups to discuss emerging trail-related issues and build consensus. Signup for our newsletters to receive reminders of umcpong meetings and past minutes.

Deferred trail maintenance on scenic State Route 20 Trails

MVTC is continuing our partnership with the Methow Valley Ranger District to accomplish deffered trail maintenance in the Highway 20 cooridor this summer. We will start by continuing efforts on the Driveway Butte Trail, and will then work with two Washington Conservation Corps Crews later in the summer to improve the Rainy Lake Overlook, and accomplish additional deffered maintnenace.

Assisting WDFW with their recreation strategy

MVTC is working with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to accomplish recreation management objectives at the Methow Wildlife Area. Our role is twofold—make an assessment of key routes and recommendations to the department on route sustainability and manage a volunteer trailhead ambassador program to welcome visitors to the area and inform them of responsible recreation practices.
